Jenny graduated from the James Madison College at Michigan State University in 1992. She graduated from University of Detroit, Mercy School of law in 1996 and was admitted to the practice of law later that year. She is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan. Jenny has practiced in trial courts throughout the state and has argued cases at the Court of Appeals.
Jenny began her legal career in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office where she worked as a law clerk writing appeals. She was later hired as a trial attorney in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, and has also served as the Chief Assistant Prosecutor in Sanilac and Charlevoix counties. Jenny has extensive jury and bench trial experience, having handed both criminal and civil cases.
After leaving the prosecutor’s office in 2004, Jenny opened her own law firm, the Law Office of Jennifer E. Deegan, PLLC, in Harbor Springs, MI. She utilized her communication skills and ability to connect with her clients to build a successful family law/divorce practice. She now concentrates her practice in the fields of family law/divorce, criminal law, and juvenile law.
Jenny regularly attends conferences and seminars to keep updated on changes in the law. She is able to use her knowledge of the court system, including juvenile proceedings and child protective proceedings, in order to provide a comprehensive service to her family law clients. She also works closely with other professionals, including accountants and financial planners, when appropriate and approved by her clients.
Jenny is pleased to offer collaborative divorce services as part of her practice, in addition to traditional litigation services. Collaborative divorce is gaining popularity as an alternative to the traditional model of the divorce with a goal to place the parties in control of their outcome. Jenny is active in our community. She is a trustee of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation and the Secretary of the Executive Board for the Foundation. She is a graduate of the Little Traverse Leadership program. She has also served as a Moot Court Team coach for both Petoskey and Harbor Springs high schools in the past several years.
Jenny is a member of the Family Law, Children’s Law and Criminal Law sections of the Michigan Bar Association/ and the Emmet/Charlevoix Bar Association. Jenny is a Fellow of the State Bar of Michigan. She is also a member of Collaborative Practice Institute of Michigan and the Up North Collaborative Divorce Professionals.
